Sharon out and about...
Sharon along with State Senator Jean Schodorf and USD 259 School Board member Lanora Nolan marching in the Restoring Our Community March on June 25. Sharon went the distance by marching the entire four mile route.
A large group of people, including Sharon, turned out for the kick off of the Kansas African American Museum's Cowry Shell Leadership Society on May 1.

Wichita Area Technical College: Sharon helped negotiate the agreement with the city and county for land at Jabara Airport in order to build the WATC.
Wal-Mart at 53rd St. N. and Meridian: Sharon pushed for stricter landscaping requirements and new traffic lights in order to keep the neighborhoods surrounding the new store viable.
Water Treatment Lift Station: Sharon worked with the Water Department and the citizens of The Moorings in order to site this treatment plant and construct it with architectural detailing so that it enhances the area.
Evergreen Public Library: When a city-owned building became available in the near-northwest part of Wichita, Sharon was able to transfer capital improvement dollars to convert the building to a much needed and utilized public library.
Bus Shelters: Working with the City Arts Council, City Council member Lavonta Williams, and area public schools, Sharon helped initiate a program in which area school students designed and painted several of the new bus shelters along the 21st St. Corridor.
Football Practice Field: When a group that works with youth football expressed the need for an additional practice field, Sharon worked with the Park Department to have one installed in Evergreen Park.
Evergreen Clinic: Sharon worked with the city and GraceMed to find space for a clinic in Evergreen Park.

Fire Station: Sharon worked to implement the fire station relocation plan to improve response times and provide better public safety.
Traffic Signalization: Sharon worked to get funding for traffic signals at I-235/K-96 and Meridian in order to decrease the number of traffic collisions occurring there.
Sherwood Glen Bridge: Sharon collaborated with the neighborhood on establishing a safe walking route to the new playground at the police training academy.
International Marketplace: After 12 failed attempts by the city, Sharon was able to work with the citizens in the 21st St. N. and Market area to develop a neighborhood plan. One part of this plan, the International Marketplace, is currently under construction at the corner of 21st St. N. and Broadway.
Old Town Public Restrooms: Seeing a need to provide public restrooms in order to help continue the revitalization of Old Town, Sharon worked with staff and surrounding businesses to find a location and develop a low-maintenance design. Similar restrooms are now being included in other public projects.
Sculpture Walkabout: Upon seeing a public sculpture project in another city, Mayor Carl Brewer asked Sharon to work with the City Arts Council to develop a similar program in Wichita. The project had 5 sculptures in 2009 and will grow to 13, including three at the new Arena, in 2010.
